The plethora of gulls (mostly Black-headed) that descended for the harrowing and sowing of the surrounding field have gone, but this great Black-backed Gull made a nice flyby showing both sides of his wings nicely lit.

This gull was following the adult Great Black-backed gull shown above, and we assume from size and general appearance that it must be a juvenile.

This female Great Spotted Woodpecker looks lovely and clean after her moult as she flies past the kitchen window.

There are a pair of Great Spotted Woodpeckers visiting various places around the house. Do hope they are breeding somewhere near.

40 minutes later the mother Great Spotted Woodpecker defends her place from aggressor male starling.

A juvenile Great Spotted Woodpecker arrives behind an apparently oblivious Grey Squirrel. When we first saw this we wished we had another frame a second or two later.

Is this juvenile Great Spotted Woodpecker watching the wasp?
Is the bird planning to try and catch it?
We wish we knew!

Another squabble over access to the peanut feeder in the freezing weather. Not that there isn't plenty for them all.

An almost surreal mid air squabble.

An unusual view in the snow of an otherwise fairly typical aerial skirmish between a great tit and robin.

The original frame included a female chaffinch with back to camera threatening all and sundry, but the most satisfying crop shows just this Great Tit about to brave the Chaffinch's ire.

And an opportunity for this nice bird in flight - for once without a fecal sack as it leaves the box.

Down in the hedge bottom a Great Tit shows off it's wings with lovely symmetry. The bluetit watches.

Unusually clear picture of a Great tit in flight. In it beak is a wet peanut, and a flake of chopped bark (we have used to stop the sites becoming mud-wallows) stuck to it's chest.

We are always trying to catch Swifts, Swallows and Martins in the act of catching an insect, but this year there has been a worrying lack of opportunities. But here the kitchen window camera catches a Robin making such an attempt. We often see birds make sudden diversions that we assume are to catch some food item, but have never actually seen the target before.

Very hot and dry, a dish of water at each feeding station (this one hidden behind the log) has attracted this great-tit.
