An early flowering Poppy we found in a sheltered patch near the Farm road entrance. The Insect is a Marmalade Hover-fly.

Hope you laugh at this is much as we did. Nothing else animate in the original frame, so no real idea what it's doing.
Practicing for the Rabbit Olympic High-jump, maybe?

The Red Kite circling the patch provided some good opportunities for photos.

Stepping out of the house revealed this Red Kite hanging close by in the sky, facing into the wind and sun. The bird proceeded to make 3 slow circles over about 3 minutes. The enforced slow progress provided a rare opportunity here for lots of Red Kite Photos.

And away the Red Kite flies to the south.

Sun in you eye, or not, changes the size of your, or this Red Kite's, Iris.

A chance for the view of the top of the Red Kite's wings properly lit.

The sky had a definite orange tinge from the remnants of Hurricane Ophelia, but our focus was on this lovely Red Kite and we didn't notice until we looked at the images later.

A second and a half of action as this Red Kite flies by and then banks towards us.

A Red kite circling overhead.
What a mess the moult makes of the normally pristine feathers.

In the hot afternoon sun in a cloudless sky, this Red Kite started drawing circles in the sky as it gained height. The bird made a lovely swoop coming quite close to us. From the 42 pics we took (at 7fps) we selected these 8 to make a close spaced impression. Pics about 2/3 second apart.

This Red Kite flew by quite close to us and we captured these 4 images about a half second apart. The bland sky gives us no way to recreate the positions accurately so they are much too close.

As the Red Kite circled it moved against some cloud edges, allowing us an accurate montage at 5 fps giving a better idea of flight speed.

A Red Kite with some rodent in it's talons, taking bites from it as it flies along.

This red kite made a nice if distant flyby. This is an arbitrary montage of 3 images. We unusually have the top of the bird as it banked, but this time no wing tags to report the colours/numbers of. Some of you tell us of dozens of kites at once, but we are delighted with just the odd one for now.

There are between 1000 and 1600 pairs of Red Kites in the whole UK (depending on who you listen to) so we feel quite privileged to see even one at all visiting our little patch several times a year.

Did the Red Kite want another look at us before it departed? We doubt it, but it gave us a final look at this glorious bird (arranged for effect rather than accuracy) before it drifted South towards Milton Keynes.

The Red Kite's languid flight eventually took it almost overhead of us. There is no doubt the bird was keeping it's eyes on the strange creatures (us) below.
