Still folding wings as the Tawny Owl looks back at the nearby ground level photo-sight where possibly the Fieldmice (Wood Mice) are scampering for safety.

Tawny owl landings about 3 hours apart showing us the top and bottoms of what we think is the same Tawny owl - the less regular bird with wider streak between the eyes.

The morning of Friday 2 Feb 2018 (Candlemass & Groundhog Day) saw the first of several sightings of Owls. The first was this Tawny Owl landing at the kitchen window bird table

In the evening before the 19 minute stay a different Tawny Owl made a short visit. First the bird flew to the thin post (top left) that holds the IR sense beam sender (pale square with dark middle). We don't know whether the bird perched on the sender or the top of the post (out of frame at the top left). The bird then swooped down through the beam (lower left) flying to the photographic target post (the landing missed while the camera flash was re-charging) where it stayed for a couple of minutes.
Everything on the left is wildly out of focus because it is metres behind the target perch, but we think interesting enough to show you anyway.

A Tawny Owl visits the kitchen window bird table.
The sense beams now runs to the left of the table so the bird flapping wings on both landing and departure triggered the camera.

The 'Night' Shift - a Tawny Owl makes an elegant arrival.

This Tawny Owl landed on the Kitchen window perch on the 'proper side' to fire the camera. We think the left wing (near the feeder) has been partially folded to avoid impact with the feeder.

The strong South Easterly wind has forced this Tawny Owl to loop round close to the house to make an 'into the wind' landing on the perch. So, back to camera, enjoy the spread of feathers!

Here is a montage of 3 of the 12 Tawny Owl landings on the post in just 4 days
Reminds us of a set of Totem Poles!

We found a rook lying dead outside the kitchen window. We have to assume a bird strike on the window, although we couldn't find any mark on the glass We moved the sad little corpse to the meadow site to see what was interested. To our surprise at about 3.30 a.m. the Tawny Owl landed on the meadow post, immediately flew down for a look and a peck at the dead bird, and almost immediately flew back to the post.

These 2 Tawny Owl visits over the same night make a nice comparison of the very different colouration above and below the wings.

4 days later the Tawny owl visited again, this time around 1 a.m., photographing itself twice, first landing and then jumping down onto the perch with it's back to us. The 2 images are montaged together.

A week later and 15 minutes after a not very interesting 3 minute visit to the Meadow post (not shown) we get this Tawny Owl landing outside the kitchen window at 4 a.m.

This Tawny Owl was landing on the perch of our peanut feeder, and we are sure it wasn't after the peanuts!

This Tawny owl made this nice landing on the perch (which we saw on CCTV as well) but stayed for only a few seconds before flying off.
The time stamp for this image is a few minutes fast.

Lovely surprise of this night was the arrival of this Tawny Owl who triggered this photo with this arrival (more to follow).

The Night Shift: A tawny owl makes a deft landing on the awkward (but at least grippy terracotta) peanut feeder.
