We sometimes see a robin hovering over water to pick off floating
food. While testing a setup to photograph this (even though it
was icy when they just land!) happy chance got this. The unusual
look isn't flash - light reflecting off ice has strange effects.

3 images of a (possibly just one individual) Robin maneuvering in the air over
the perch. 3 moments over 100 minutes arranged for artistic effect.
Don't interpret this as a 'bird in flight accurate montage'!

Robins are basically aggressive birds who suppress antagonism to their breeding
partner for a few months of family raising. So this is presumably an extra-family
affair as these two Robins squabble over who 'owns' the bird table.

A Robin twists in flight to try to remove the Great Tit already on the
Kitchen Bird table. It looks like the Tit is altogether ready to defend their position.

The apparently joyous faces are at odds with the reality. Both birds
want control of the perch to the peanuts out of frame to the left.

Continuing our unintentional 'birds twisting in flight'
sequence, this young robin's body is almost inverted with
head almost vertical.
'Look mum - upside down flying - ouch'.

Birds and rodents together in single images is not as uncommon
as it used to be. We think this fieldmouse (wood mouse) is warning off the
arriving robin. We have no idea of the outcome if a real battle
ensured - sharp beak and 2 claws vs sharp teeth and 4 claws!

Taken one evening and next morning (both in sufficient darkness for
the flash to swamp the natural light) this is a montage of a
robin who obviously has a preferred landing style at the site.
