What do you do with a dead pigeon:- Feel sad for it's death but note that it was plucked (raptor rather than fox) and wasn't wasted. Then put the remains out as 'bait' and see what happens. It was put out 1Hr 40m before the first image timed at 4:19p.m. Tomorrows image concludes the sequence.

At a different scale the Sparrowhawk is also a voracious hunter, here making an early morning stop-off at the Kitchen perch.

On most afternoons one window inevitably sees a few passages of a Sparrowhawk flash past. Occasionally one lands on the Kitchen perch. This time it appears to be the male, a smaller bird than the more often glimpsed female. Whether one or both flash past the window we have no idea.

Obviously being startled by humans does not deter this particular Sparrowhawk for very long, here landing on the Kitchen perch about 20m away a couple of hours later. Some individuals abandon an area for a day or more if disturbed, others just give it 'a while' before returning.

The local female Sparrowhawk stops off on the Kitchen Window perch, undoubtedly after hoping to catch something tasty from the feeder below (out of crop).

The same event is caught by the temporary Trail cam from slightly earlier and continues for another 9 seconds.

It is cold, and the Sparrowhawk is hungry.

The female Sparrowhawk has started making appearances at both the study and kitchen feeders. Here the wildly swinging peanut feed on the chain suggests and unsuccessful attack on a bird at the feeder just before landing on the perch.

Wow - a close to full frame Sparrowhawk at the kitchen window just as it landed on the peanut feeder perch and took its own portrait

An unexpected moment as the Sparrowhawk landed facing the camera to give us this wonderful view. A look at the CCTV recording shows that it skimmed low over the main pond behind, landed here and stayed for about 1 minute before flying on.

The Day Shift: The male Sparrowhawk (with his 'mad yellow eye') - photographs himself as he fails in yet another pass over the bird table and peanut feeder.

Sparrowhawk sightings are usually Whizz-by events, but this one hung in the air for minute of so to allow this little sequence.

A biting north wind limited the birds and us to short forays. The birds were all trying to keep near the ground - even the corvids. This sparrowhawk swooped by us skimming over the ground so close to it that it's shadow is only just offset.

This Sparrowhawk made an atypical loop round the house before vanishing as fast as it arrived.

This Sparrowhawk made a short visit to the Meadow Post an hour or so after sunrise. This looks like a female, but more probably a new juvenile, sussing out the area.

We don't see much of this bird except as Wham-Bang-Grab-Gone visits to take tits at the bird feeders, so its nice to get a few pics. The bird actually got so close it filled the frame for a moment but horribly blurred and human necks don't bend far enough backwards to follow it.
