The Kestrel now given up the unequal confrontation, the Buzzard gives themselves a pedicure.
Difficult to make out? The birds head is tilted horizontal to the viewers right
with the lifted claw just below the beak.

This was the Buzzard's reaction to another Kestrel flyovers.

... because the Buzzard then spent 6 minutes in watchful contemplation.

The bird landed on the crossbar of the pole next one down (say
100m further from us) but his head was hidden by the nearer wire.
When paying more attention the head came up and we got this shot
8 minutes later. We never see Buzzards perching even on the heavy
gauge cables - we guess that the birds are just too heavy and
feet too big to comfortably grip a cable.

Part way through the morning where the temperature reached -8.8C the previous
night and is still -0.2C at 10:40 (figures captured in retrospect from our Ecowitt records).
Looking south over the neighbouring fields the frost is so heavy you might think that this
was light snow if we couldn't assure you that this is 'just' frost.
That little speck on the post is definitely a Buzzard.

A post installed a couple of decades ago as a lonely feature among a 'sea' of
plastic tree shelters is now almost lost in the maturing trees at 3 times it's
height. But this Buzzard seems to like it.

The Buzzard doesn't fly away as we expect, but flies about 50 metres away from the house
to land on a quite flimsy 'post' on Duck Pond's tiny island.
This pic was taken with a hand-held camera from outside the house, largely
obscured by a piece of non-boundary hedge. Original is badly underexposed.

Half an hour later stepping out of the house we were not expecting to see
this Buzzard, now perched on the top of the wood power pole about 30m south
of the Meadow Post. The Buzzard wasn't pleased to see us, and quickly vanished.

Our current 'local Buzzard' perched in the broken Ash tree to our south.
The bird doesn't seem to have a favourite branch to perch on, choosing
any of about 10 horizontal and stout branches.

The Buzzard landed in the broken limbed Ash tree to our South, and spent several
minutes eyeing over the territory (mostly sprouting wheat crop).

A Buzzard perched on an 11kV cable.
We assume that this is a young bird - fully mature birds seem to be
too heavy to be comfortable doing this.

We think that this must be a different buzzard perched on the 11kV cables over
the Bridleway to the north. Only the lighter juveniles regularly perch on the cables -
the mature birds rarely stay long on the hard small area of the cables and prefer
the more comfortable crossbars.

Over the years we have mentioned that Buzzards don't perch on wires, assuming
that their weight and foot design make this uncomfortable. Well this buzzard,
some 200m away from us, spent a few minutes perched on the wire before flying
back to the brook.
So maybe ... Buzzards don't often perch on wires ...

to land on this cross-bar and start hunting in the evening sunlight.

We haven't seen much of Buzzards or Red Kite this week, but did spot this
Buzzard bending down a twig that can just support the bird's weight.

This buzzard was flying low over a pasture to our south, with a Rook
harassing the Buzzard enough for it to show beak and claws for a moment.

This Buzzard spent at least 15 minutes on the post. The strong Easterly wind
(towards camera) means most birds are landing with back to camera at the moment, as here.

A Buzzard hasn't been apparent in the sky, so we were surprised
to find this visit recorded on the Meadow post in the afternoon.
