Its the time of territorial disputes and these face-to-face fights are typical. Note the vicious claws of the robin on the right going for the chaffinch.

Chaffinches have done well this year and many adults and youngsters visit the tree-stump top. They often squabble over the rights to this tiny piece of real-estate.

Many small birds chase away members of their own or other species to get access to food. Here a Chaffinch is chasing off a Bluetit.

A beautifully poised Female Chaffinch. Until we started these automated photos we had no idea that chaffinches had such lovely green backs you don't see in the standard 'pose'.

4 Successive frames saw this chaffinch flying fairly close by the male Great Spotted Woodpecker within just 3 minutes. We are sure it was trying harass it away.

Successive frames about 1 minute apart indicate an extended dispute between this female chaffinch and a great tit.

The chaffinch nest barely visible in a Golden Cypress we showed you on the Female taking in nesting (click to view) is going well and both parents are taking in an 'endless' supply of insects for the chicks. Here the female by the nest.

A pair of chaffinches seem to be nesting in a golden cypress visible from a window in the house. At the moment a constant stream of soft materials is going in.

This tree trunk has just been stocked for the next night's visitors. The male on the right isn't being very gallant towards the female (or maybe juvenile) on the left.
