While walking down the road verge this Little Egret made a delightful flight along the 11kV power line. This is an accurate montage at 7fps from which we extracted 3 images for the closer look adjacent.

A Little Egret flying along the line of the 11kV power lines gave us this opportunity for a flight study. These 3 consecutive frames at 7fps are at about half the true spacing in order to enjoy some detail on the bird. The original montage is adjacent.

Facing away from a lurid dawn, this Little Egret flew by us, lit by the pink of the sky.

The Little Egret finally departed and was lost from view.

Very few views of the Little Egret this year. We enjoyed this one flying over the Rookery. Note that the Rooks do not consider the Egret a threat - if this was a Buzzard they would rise en-masse to mob it!

We see a Little Egret perhaps once a week. This one was flying about near the Brook, landed out of sight for a while before re-appearing to provide this view flying into the gusty east (from the right) wind.

Successive frames, lower then upper.
Natural spacing with no cloud detail would be guesswork, so we had a little 'artistic' moment.

These 3 pics are at 7 frames per second - this is a big bird to be flying with this much separation between frames.

Our first good sighting of a Little Egret for months was in and around trees at the brook to the north.
Here is an elegant landing.

Long legs used to provide 'spring' for the Little Egret lift-off.
Very close to accurately montaged.

We didn't hear any call so possible disposing of a Little Egret pellet, similar to Owl Pellets but with different content. Or maybe just a morning yawn!

Little Egrets are one of those birds we just never saw 20 years ago. Here one has landed across the local brook and we managed to get this image through trees branches without scaring the bird away.

High in the distant trees our first sighting this year of a Little Egret, and what looks like a 'pair' at that.

This pair of egrets landed in a distant snowy field and 'vanished' against the snow. A walk down the road got us nearer for this white on white study

Our first ever photo of a Snipe. The area round this automatic camera was saturated with running melt water - just right to attract this mud probing bird and provide this most unexpected event.

Worms are definitely on the menu! This is 3 successive frames as it manoeuvred a worm down its long beak

Surprise of the week was this Snipe making a perhaps 30 minute visit to the grass around. and banks of, the main pond.
How do you preen with a beak half of your body length?
Very nicely apparently.

Here is a selection of images, all through window glass for fear of disturbing the visitor.

This pair of montaged images shows that the bird uses all of the beak when it needs to.
