The male pheasant is now about most days. The morning before this
afternoon picture one of 'his' females (that we call 'Blondie'
because her plumage is unusually light) visited the same site
but left her head out of the picture.

The male pheasant again stayed at this site for an hour
taking his picture. Here is one of the better portraits.
No sighting of the females at all.

Haven't caught the male pheasant on camera for almost
a month. We haven't seen 'the girls' for about the same
period. Hopefully they have found a safe nesting in the
rank grass.

Supper together.
This male (with dark ear tufts) has 3 ladies following him around. At times
he makes his characteristic call every 2 or 3 minutes.

Penny plain, tuppence coloured.
This quote refers to the difference between the two plumages ...
"In the 19th Century, a fave kids' toy was a model theatre. The characters, props and scenery
were sold as separately as printed sheets which you cut out and mounted on bits of wood.
The sheets cost a penny if they were just printed in black outline, so that the user had to
colour them in, or tuppence (two pence) if ready coloured for posh kids".

the bird looks more than ready to deliver some beak, claws and spurs in return!

A peaceful moment catches the dominant male pheasant with unusual colouration
quietly stepping over what looks like a log, but is actually a piece of bark
from the dead tree behind.
