We rarely get pictures of birds leaving the Meadow post (a technical matter) so were surprised to get these two usable moments 3 hours apart.

This Wood Pigeon took off from the wooden electricity pole that is out of crop half a frame width to the right.
We rather like the mix of fluidity and stolidity

What this Wood Pigeon is up to we can't even imagine.

At this time of year we get less than 8 hours of sunlight. The orange light of the setting sun illuminates this sleek Wood Pigeon.

Wood Pigeon feathers look so smooth and matt you can forget that they are made up of hundreds of overlapping feathers.

The drought has created wide and deep cracks in exposed soil. Here a Wood Pigeon looks down the Crack hoping for some food dropped in.

A rather elegant portrait of a Wood Pigeon on the Tree-stump.

"En Garde!"
Well - watching the world go by while my mate sits on our eggs.

Have we found the Pigeon with the missing tail feathers? Sadly NO.
This pic was taken the day before of a similarly tail-deprived Pigeon, which may mean this is not an uncommon occurrence, but you have to be very lucky to see it.

This Wood Pigeon caught our eye for the range of colours on the neck plumage. We have NOT 'wound up' the colours.

3 minutes later we have just this one lovely Wood Pigeon showing us the underside of it's wings.

A currently rare moment of sunshine illuminates the Dogwood at the rear of the main pond as this Wood Pigeon makes an elegant touchdown.

This Wood Pigeon out in the cold and rain plumps up the feathers to keep out the cold. No sleek breast here - maximise the insulating air-space.

Next morning sees another fall of snow which quickly melted.

We must stop deriding Wood Pigeon Nests as 'three sticks is enough'!
The meadow post automatic camera captured images of (presumably just one) Wood Pigeon endlessly stopping on the top of the post with 30 different twigs in little over 24 hours. The bird may of course stopped off elsewhere as well, and we don't know where the nest is. But enjoy 12 of the 'twigs' - its quite hard to see how the bird can fly with some of the more awkward shapes.

We have often commented on the 'teardrop' pupil of all of our local Wood Pigeons. This close-up shows the unusual form particularly well.

We haven't previously noticed the subtle ring of close spaced 'bumps' in the ring around Wood Pigeon eyes.
