At least one Redwing has been around for a few days and likes the apple peel. Here one is being chased off by a robin half its size.

Lots of Robin families this year. Here the chick is begging before the parent has even touched the ground.

A pair of Robins seem to have decided to make a nest in one of the miniature conifers near the South of the house. Here is one of them collecting one of last years leaves.

We often see Male robins doing crazy show-off displays to the females, but for once they obliged on camera.

Dear oh dear - who needs a preen after his bath then?
The bird probably rushed over when he saw a human - an opportunity for an easy meal!

This Robin (unfortunately in the shadow of the house) spent a couple of minutes biting lumps off this (still wiggling) worm and swallowing the pieces

Standing in the garden with some visitors this robin came for an offering of corn but it spotted a huge worm and couldn't resist this much more exciting prospect. It proceeded to bite the worm in two. The front half exited at speed, but the back half was neatly snipped into at least two pieces by the robin and promptly swallowed. And all while all 4 of us stood perhaps 2 metres away dumbfounded.

As we brushed by a hedge this drenched robin fledgling hopped out and crouched not knowing what to do next. We moved away and a parent came down to guide it to safety.

We adore our foxes, but really think this one arriving at the site in the rain shows a real sense of menace. The wise prompt exit by the Robin undoubtedly triggers the photo of this fox which is some 3 metres behind the camera's infra-red trigger beam and focus line.

An adult Robin banks across the photo site with some tiny morsel in the tip of the beak. What a mess a season of breeding makes of the once pristine feathers.

Greenfinches generally win territorial disputes against robins, but being airborne gives the robin some advantage. Just about even then - both birds decide the other one should be ignored (for now).

A Robin in a hurry with youngsters to feed a worm that looks rather large for a comparatively small bird. No doubt to be reduced to 'swallow' sized pieces.

Robins appear wherever we go. We like the Joie-de-vie with which this one is carrying off a single corn grain - something to emulate for the new year.
