This robin is just launching itself from the log nicely
in the focal plane for once.

This robin took it's picture fleeing from the approach of the
monster coming to swop memory cards in the camera and chuck down
some corn. During the day robins are now fairly trusting but in
the half-light they quite rightly play safe.

The robin family still seem to be doing OK. Here is one of the
immature birds in flight just past midnight. Birds are not
supposed to fly in the dark, but this was taken only 2 days after the
longest day, so twilight never really ends.

The insect top right must be in front of the young robin
or it would be out of focus (like MOST are) so the bird
is jumping to catch it.

The young robins are developing well. Robins and similar birds
have nearly all-round vision so their vision 'sweet spot' is not
ahead but to one side. Hence the quirky head angle to examine and
maybe also listen to the ground.

What's up there then?
We couldn't see anything above the robin in the original camera frame.

Most landings are perfect elegance (we could show you dozens a
night) but they don't all go as planned.

At the end of the day this Robin is out in the gloom and rain launching this
attack on something above. Knowing Robins sweet disposition (NOT) it
was probably another Robin daring to fly over!

A pair of robins build a nest on top of a rack in a dilapidated
tool shed (windows & door long gone) & they now have at least 4 chicks
in it. The parents usually come out and wait expectantly for a tit-bit
from us, so we can go in and get a picture. We can't see what we are
photographing even on the camera's LCD because it is so dark, but
switching the camera to automatic & flash and pointing it through the gap
in the fertiliser bags usually gets something. Only once a day though -
don't want to stress them.

Outside the front of the house is a long ago pollarded (and unfortunately dead) ornamental
Cherry tree inherited with the house right on the edge of the concrete track
subsequently laid by the farmer we bought the 2 acres from.
Unfortunately it started to grow over the access track and we had to try to reduce
the overgrowth. But it died, and now provides a convenient perch for mostly
Pigeons, but here this Robin.
The Robin is looking down at their mate ...
