Birds - Robin Page 16

An unusual juxtaposition of Robin and Bluetit.
The legs of the Bluetit are well spread as if it was climbing up the side of the trunk.
We have no idea what happened next!

The posts supporting about 100 Lombardy Poplars along the farm road are starting to get used by the wildlife. We caught this robin stopping off for a moment presumably on his way back to the nest. Talk about 'overloaded'.

Later the same day with snow still about: "Stay off - this is my patch ..."

A Robin stopping for a moment on the tree-stump deep in the now far-from-dark woods. A Christmas day Robin - sans snow!

The Robin 'owner' of this part of our patch stops by the Tree-stump as the sun starts to set.

Here is the Tree-stump at the end of Thursday and first visitor on Friday morning. The east wind (from behind the camera) has stuck the snow on to the side this quite smooth wood.

A Robin in the snow - a living Christmas card (only a few days late)

Only a few minutes before sunset, The Robin makes a final check that food hasn't miraculously appeared on the tree stump.

Looks to us like a robin is guarding his heap of food and this great tit is trying a 'pop-up' approach. The shadow of the great tit particularly appeals - note how the shadow of the body is black but the shadow of the wings is much lighter as the light shines through the wings.

As the breeding season approaches, Robins lie in wait for us in the hope (normally fulfilled) of a scattering of corn.

Robins get extremely tolerant of a human that they think (usually correctly here) may give them something good to eat.

One of those unplanned moments - a nice robin sitting quietly on the wire not preening has a sudden itch just as the camera takes it's pic.

A couple of decent apples to choose from, and which one does the robin pick?

2 Robins not fighting in late Winter or Spring indicates a pair! We have seen these two several times, and they come down together as we 'bait' the site.

A genuine single frame of a pair of robins.
At other times or year they would be fighting like the proverbial 'cats and dogs' but nature calls a romantic truce for Spring!

Isn't it strange how you can tell this is attraction and not threat as these robins continue to court.
