Only a few minutes before sunset, The Robin makes a final check that
food hasn't miraculously appeared on the tree stump.

The falling tree now forming the tree-stump was rather inexpertly felled by
yours truly, leaving this uneven surface. We don't often see birds choosing to perch
with their legs at different heights .

Looks to us like a robin is guarding his heap of food and this great tit is
trying a 'pop-up' approach. The shadow of the great tit
particularly appeals - note how the shadow of the body is black
but the shadow of the wings is much lighter as the light shines
through the wings.

As the breeding season approaches, Robins lie in wait for us in the hope
(normally fulfilled) of a scattering of corn.

Robins get extremely tolerant of a human that they think (usually correctly
here) may give them something good to eat.

One of those unplanned moments - a nice robin sitting quietly
on the wire not preening has a sudden itch just as the camera
takes it's pic.

2 Robins not fighting in late Winter or Spring indicates a pair!
We have seen these two several times, and they come down together
as we 'bait' the site.

A genuine single frame of a pair of robins.
At other times or year they would be fighting like the proverbial
'cats and dogs' but nature calls a romantic truce for Spring!

Isn't it strange how you can tell this is attraction and not
threat as these robins continue to court.

Outside of the breeding season both sexes of Robins defend their territory
against all-comers, but to breed they have to relax their guard for a mate.
The pair of Robins that include the Meadow site as part of this years territory.

Two days later we see what is probably another pair of Robins not fighting, this
time at the Meadow site.
Robin territories here seem to be about a 20-30m radius
here, about the distance between these two sites.
