The Robins have to smother their normal territorial aggression if they are going to 'get together' to make a new generation. Here is an evening assignation and a morning song!

The Robins continue their Love-in.
We think this must be the male (left) courtship feeding the female.

Female birds often demand food from the males during the early breeding season, as the female Robin on left is doing.
It is called 'courtship feeding'. Apart from proving that the male knows what to catch for the youngsters to come, it helps the female to determine the availability of suitable food for chicks and thus when to lay the eggs.

2 loving Robins (the only way you would see them not fighting at this time of year) with a Bluetit acting as Duenna - NOT.

At this time of year we often see robin pairs with (presumably) the male doing vertical launches followed by tumbling to earth and a last-minute pull out. Must impress the girls! Poor quality photo but of interest.

During the moult the robins have been very retiring, but we walk round the perimeter one will appear in a 'hopeful' approach for a food offering, the individual bird changing as we move across their territorial boundaries.

The robin spent 15 minutes in the morning with better culinary equipment making the hole ever bigger, and appeared again the same evening for further helpings.

One of the many Robins, each in their own patch, perched on a really old hedge covered in lichen opposite the front door.

A Robin visits the hedge bottom. The strange black 'anti-halo' looks on first glance like a fallen leaf, but closer inspection shows a Dunnock lurking in the background.

As the breeding season approaches, Robins lie in wait for us in the hope (normally fulfilled) of a scattering of corn.
