After a day of rain an early bright period saw a lot of corvids
out looking over waterlogged soil for breakfast. This rook
silhouette with beak and eye rather appealed to us.

A rare spell of sunshine breaks the interminable gloom allowing
some attractive images of this Rook flying by.

Another stick for the Rook nest.
The abnormal conditions have produced what seems to us an enormous amount
of dead branches and twigs lying all over the woodland.
The Corvids are treating the place as a 'click and collect builder's merchant'

We have a few times spotted corvids carrying what looked like
short sticks, and have finally resolved the puzzle by catching
this Rook flying overhead with a Wheat crop seed head, presumably
to consume elsewhere.

We have recently seen this rook with a load of wing feathers missing
but it doesn't seem to effect his flight one iota.

A rook flies 'out of the glare of the sun' and past us, creating this unusual
progression of appearance all in less than a second.

Now the Rook nests are built, the materials for the nest moves on to insulation
and comfort - here goes a beakful of dried foliage for one of the nests.

As the early morning sun strikes the trees and streaks the leaf litter,
a Rook arrives to check out the site for missed morsels under the leaves.

It's not unusual to see a Corvids (Crow, Jackdaw etc.) in the distance, usually in the general
direction of the sun, looking so bright that you momentarily think it must be an Egret
of other white bird. Its just the sun glistening off the shiny feathers, and here you see
the effect as sunlight catches the far wing of this flying Rook

Rooks often seem to come for a brief bathe at this pond, but we usually
only catch the rook with the ripples. Here in the middle image we see
with bird jumping in for at most a few seconds.

Juvenile Rooks (left) don't have the white beaks of the adult .
At a glance you can mistake them for a Carrion Crow except that
they are slightly smaller and very sociable.

We have not so far seen Rooks feeding youngsters at the hi-res
photo sites or at the peanut feeders (their beaks are just too
large). But here in the orchard a 'trail camera' catches a young
rook demanding to be fed by a less than enthusiastic parent.

The Rooks seem mostly to have finished making the new generation.
Here we have 2 pairs of Rooks, juvenile on the left in each case.

A Rook lands at the Woodland site in a flurry of feathers.
Not a trace of the wonderful iridescence we see on the Magpie.
