A juvenile Song Thrush (note the yellow beak edge) flies low over the site
probably incidentally scaring away a smaller bird.

There are now many sites where we find scattered remains of snail
shells broken on slabs of stone, drain covers and corrugated
iron. We must have quite a few young Song Thrushes - and possibly
now not so many slugs and snails!

The thrush is undoubtedly not finding much by way of snails and
insects with the ground frozen, and we have seen them filling up
of stored fruit we put out.

The Song Thrush enjoys our currently unkempt salad bed where badgers,
squirrels, moles and the birds turn over the soil for invertebrates.

A Song Thrush no doubt hoping to find some snails to take off and smash.
Meanwhile a Great Tit takes off for reasons we can only guess.
Genuine single frame - no fiddles

a small holding-pond.

'The Voice' (a UK TV singing
'talent' show we DON'T watch) wildlife style.
Taken in the same minute these two Song Thrushes, perhaps 30m apart, seemed
to be competing for the most impressive song - for us in stereo!

This Song Thrush seems to have usurped the normal singing post of the male Blackbird.
The Blackbird simply uses another tree / post / aerial - anything to get him high!

The Song Thrush in his accustomed place on the tip of the highest
tree in the garden, singing for all he was worth. While
finalising this text 5 July he was high in this favourite
conifer caroling away.

We don't remember a year for Song Thrushes singing like this one
has been. We have at least two pairs nesting somewhere and they
encourage each other to sing to defend their territories.

We think we have 2 or 3 Song thrush territories, one around the
house, another around our South boundary, and a third at the
south edge of the woodland. This one is singing in a conifer by
the garage both 'inherited' with the house.

90 minutes later at the same site what looks like the same Song Thrush
with more traditional fare - a snail to smash open on the stone.
