An adult male Green Woodpecker graces the meadow Post for a few minutes.
Read this right to left - a heavy landing, a scramble for secure footing, and then
a few minutes watching the world go by.

The local Green Woodpecker is very nervous of humans, so we hardly ever see him
for ourselves. But he seems to find the Meadow Post an acceptable place to perch.

A local male Green Woodpecker takes a selfie in the sunshine.
His beak is coated with mud - at this time of year an 'occupational hazard'
for a bird that feeds by probing the ground and Ant nests.

Here this male Green Woodpecker provides a little show of his antics.
The top of this post is getting eroded and a split down the length also
reaches the top. There may be useful things to peck for, though Green Woodpeckers
primarily feed of ants, of which our meadow provides a good supply.
You can clearly see the tail used as a 'third leg'

A gorgeous Green Woodpecker lands on the Meadow Post.
The air temperature and sunshine cause him to pant - the main
way that most birds cool themselves.

The male Green Woodpecker arrives on the Meadow post looking appallingly dishevelled,
probably fresh from a bath somewhere. 15 minutes later, as good as he will get during
his moult, he looks much more like his old self.

A more detailed look at the ground image of the Green Woodpecker, who looks
lovely in Clover and backgrounded by Oxeye Daisies, even if his feathers are
bedraggled in the rain. His beak is covered in mud from probing the loose soil
replenished at this site a couple of days before. The rain will bring worms and
invertebrates to the surface for his probing beak and tongue to locate.
