Birds - Wren Page 1
Image of day on 08 Aug 2007
Here is yesterday's Wren having a dust bath as a 14 frame animation
shown at about one third natural speed. Note the flying sand in
frames 2 and 12, and the apparent extasy in frame 10.

One of the 'joys' of winter is seeing all the nests you had no idea
were there when they were occupied. From the small size and
seeing wrens many times in this area during the summer we think
this is a Wren's nest.

We quite often get fleeting views of wrens in the hedges, but
have not photographed one at a one of the 'sites' for 4 years.
So we are pleased this one popped by.

Wrens usually offer only a fleeting glimpse, but we spotted this
bird furiously taking nesting material to about .5m up a reed mace
clump. This is a composite of two images (bird at the left a second
or two before the right).

Views of Wrens are usually very fleeting, but this bird spent
a couple of minutes bathing in the sand and dust by a hydrant.
Tomorrow an animation of a few second of his joy.

Wrens are small, lightening fast and spend most of their
time inside obscuring dense hedges so we were pleased to
get this chance image of a young wren in flight.

Wrens are so quick its usually 'look - there was a wren there'.
In a shady corner this one was exploring the ivy on the garage
wall giving us a chance for a photo.

We very rarely see Wrens at the photo sites, so when we
DO get one why does it look like it is falling over backwards?

From the house across the main pond, we spotted this tiny wren
having an unusually long stay at the water's edge. Normally you
see a wren for barely more than a few seconds before it rushes
off elsewhere.

This wren popped up for a moment with an insect in its beak, and
flew off into the back of the overgrown lilies at the back of the
main pond. We have spotted them around the back over a couple of
weeks and are fairly sure they are now feeding chicks on a nest.
