NO - this didn't happen!
A couple of hours apart during the night these 2 visitors photographed themselves at either end of the camera frame. So we have brought them together to show you the entirely different body builds of these two night scavenger/hunters. Both Badger (left) and this Fox seem to be in good health.

Early morning and evening of the same day sees the Badger (left) and Fox visiting the same place at the woodland site. We understand that male Fox genitals enlarge at this time of year ready for breeding - we think we see this here.

The windfall apples attract a Muntjac Deer, Foxes and Badger. For the second time in a week a Badger and a Fox cross paths. It is the Fox that leaves.

These 4 pics rather simplify an interaction between Fox and Badger, and the Badger is obviously the winner of the pecking (or should it be biting) order.
Top Left: The Fox spent a few minutes at a scrape on the Round Mound before suddenly reacting to the arrival of a Badger coming up the mound.
Top Right: The Fox makes a hurried departure - thats the blur upper middle!
Bottom Left: The Fox watches from a distance as the Badger scrapes at the same place.
Bottom Right: 20 minutes later the Badger has gone and the Fox returns, but is already     reacting to something down the slope.
The target of their scrapes is a new Rabbit hole in this patch of the mound.

We have over 150 pics of activity at the new (original Rabbit) hole in the south of Round Mound. We are not at all sure what is going on. First a Badger made a short visit. Then a Fox spent 85 minutes digging out the hole, reaching the point where the Fox could get into the hole far enough that only the tail is visible. A few minutes later we see presumably the same Fox departing through the east hedge gap.

A sudden eruption of self-set Orange Hawkweed (commonly called Fox-and-Cubs) has lit up a strip near the front of the house. Here the gradually increasing number of Bees is visiting one.

Just half an hour apart a Tabby Cat and a Fox visited this site in the positions shown. We have always thought of cats as much smaller than a fox, but in this case they are quite similar.

Four regular 'Mound visitors' species captured over 50 hours, all where they were at the time.

The Drinker Moth is a moderately large moth that flew rather nicely for us. Here are 3 flights.

Foxes have been regular visits at stealthy camera sites, but this one has at last started making visits to the good quality cameras. Here it is visiting the camera near the boundary hedges, though rather inelegantly cropped by the top of the camera frame.
Only 2 minutes before a mouse was making a rapid exit - it probably heard the fox coming in through the boundary hedge.

Our night photo kit was originally adjusted for larger animals. So here is a whole fox from Sept 2003.

We couldn't resist contrasting these two single frames (i.e. the two mice are like this in the original) of the same place 7 hours apart after rain. Can the fox still smell the mice we wonder?

OK - OK - this didn't happen!
As we worked through the images these came up next to each other & we couldn't resist it! We suspect the fox cub can still smell the mouse from a couple of hours before.

6 successive frames suggested this montage top left to right, bottom left to right as both creatures returned repeatedly. Could the fox smell the alluring mouse from an hour or two earlier?

A Red Fox saunters along the path up the meadow, causing this Fieldmouse (Wood Mouse) to leap to safety & triggering the camera to catch them both in the frame. The Fox was apparently unaware of the mouse, or once it heard it knew the alerted rodent would now be impossible to catch.

In the meadow this Fieldmouse (Wood Mouse) streaks away from unseen danger. A minute later the Fox renders the danger visible.

A Fox on the prowl in the woodland. The tail looks a bit tatty, but it is not the one with seriously fur-less tail. We must have at least 3 different Foxes visiting.
