Our Infra-Red Stealth cameras have caught appearances of both
female and male (with tiny antlers and tusks) in the last few
weeks. This is the female picking over the windfall apples at about 4 a.m.

This looks like a female Reeve's Muntjac deer laying on the ground,
being approached by another female and being gently encouraged to
get up and walk away together. Female Deer are known to attend one another
during Birthing, and this may be the first stages.
Or something else entirely

Here she is pulling mouthfuls of leaves from the self-set willow saplings.
By the time we spotted her she had substantially reduced the lush vegetation.
She is welcome - saves us the trouble.

This female Muntjac Deer has been seen with her fawn, and she is
undoubtedly hungry while producing milk. Mother deer just LOVES
our windfall apples, and now we have gathered some at this photo
site seems to be eating several a day. This montage was probably
taken over about 6 seconds (the camera is variable over its
still frame rate).

Just after dawn on the same day you can see the underside of the
female Muntjac deer's left rear hoof. The little double slot
tracks in the mud are a sure sign that 'a Muntjac was here'.

Mother Muntjac Deer and her Fawn stopped for several minutes right outside the
kitchen window. Here was the fawn ducking down to walk forward under Mum - for
no reason we can imagine.

After a few minutes the Muntjac Deer Fawn decided it wanted to suckle.
The mother is licking the Fawns bottom - presumably to encourage
it to defecate, though we didn't see it do so or find any signs afterwards.

Enlarged from the above, the Muntjac Deer Fawn has it's mouth on one teat and we
can see 2 of the others. We don't know how many Teats there are.

The Muntjac Deer Fawn then started to get rather rough, ramming the mother's
teats presumably to get out the last drop of milk. Mum didn't enjoy this, moved
aside to disengage the Fawn, and then effectively blocked the Fawn from access
to the now dry milk bar.

This Muntjac deer obviously knew there was a way through the fence,
but couldn't find it because it was at the wrong end of 300m of
fence. It spent 10 minutes before finally wandering in the right
direction They can jump the fence in a panic, but prefer not to.

ambles across the concrete track into the adjacent crop field to the left.
