The 10 minute start of what turns out to be a whole series of overnight visits
to this woodland site by what seems to be the same female Reeves' Muntjac Deer.
Here it looks like the Magpie is taking the chance to nip in and grab something to eat.

We didn't hear her ourselves, but here a female Reeves' Muntjac Deer greets the day.
She may be calling a fawn - see next image.

The apparently more placid Reeves' Muntjac Deer don't rut.
This is a female, but the males are equipped with little Antlers and small
'Tusks' which are apparently used when fighting other males.
But we have never seen any Muntjac with more than a few scratches.

While repairing camera electronics at the tree stump this Reeve's Muntjac Deer
came wandering up the path towards us, quietly rummaging through the leaves. The
Deer never seemed to spot us, or has us classified as 'harmless', and after a
couple of minutes saw more productive foraging off to the side of the path and
disappeared into the undergrowth.

From the kitchen window we watch the female Reeves' Muntjac Deer foraging on
the island of the main pond island, trying the various flavours growing on
this deliberately ill-kempt patch.

bit of hedging that is in shade almost all year.

A female Reeve's Muntjac Deer calls into the night. We thought only the males
called, but a check (i.e. Google search :-( ) finds that females do call for males!
Next night we see a female pattering by with a very interested male in gentle
pursuit.

The 'resident' Reeve's Muntjac Deer seems to like Iris fronds.
Eat as many as you want!
Keeping Iris plants under control on just this pond is a major problem.

feeding quietly here on what was once a neat shingled area.

Here you can see that the Deer's fur is drenched in what turned out to be
a day of non-stop rain. The pools of water are in what constitutes our front driveway
with the Deer's little hooves sinking into the saturated soil.
