Its seems to be mostly Grey Squirrels that are gradually stripping the Hawthorn and Rose bushes of their fruits.

This Grey Squirrel is ever hopeful of finding a way to get at the nuts from these Squirrel-proof peanut feeders. Squirrels have had several successful outcomes over several year with lid locks failing, feeders falling, etc. so it's always worth them having a look.

Another visit by the Grey Squirrel clambering up the tree-stump.
Ooh yummy - strawberry!
The streak down the wood is the slime of a Leopard slug that reached the top the 'hard way'

A young (well at least small) Grey Squirrel flees from our arrival up the trunk of our tallest tree - a black poplar named 'Ivan' after a deceased friend.

The Grey Squirrel on the right appears to have decided to see off the Squirrel already at the top, but the top Squirrel seems to have other ideas.

This Grey Squirrel walks up the (quite rough surface) concrete power pole, and then walks down the same side by turning their rear feet though nearly 180 degrees to grip the surface when head down.

The crop of Acorns this year has been amazing.
The Grey Squirrels are making the most of the opportunity to cache a supply to eat in the winter.
If you see a squirrel with something held in it's mouth at this time of year it is on the way to be stored. If a Squirrel wants to eat it it will nibble at it where they found it whilst held hidden between their paws.

This grey squirrel (about 80 metres from the other site) is obviously collecting winter bedding, and at these temperatures we hope it was warm enough. Caught in another photo a few days later doing the same thing, so it is probably a routine 'housekeeping'.

As this extremely cold day wears on, this Squirrel decides to lay in some extra bedding. Same as for us then!

Over 4 days we see 4 passages of Grey Squirrels carrying another Ear of corn from the field to our west. How many actual passages the Squirrel makes without triggering the photo evidence is impossible to even guess.

Two days later the Wheat field to our west has been harvested (the only nearby source of corn ears), and this Grey Squirrel is picking up some of the crop that the combine harvester dropped.

Everybody knows that Grey squirrels cache large items of food (mainly nuts) to eat another day. But this Squirrel was making repeated visits to the corn scattered bird table to collect some grain in his mouth and then leap down to bury it in the grass a few metres away. Here is one of the sequences all photographed in the same minute.
Can we expect a fine crop of corn here next year?

With the temperature stuck at 5C and 6C over several days and nights it is cold enough to need to supplement the bedding in the Drey.
