Twee moment of the week is this pristine Grey squirrel ensconced in a bed
of fallen leaves nibbling food from their paws.

Grey Squirrels have a few favourite places to nestle in what there is of any
warming sunshine. This is one of the picturesque ones - another is the top of a
Great-Tit/Tree Sparrow nest box.

The Woodland Trust asked us to see if we could supply some
'animals stealing picnic food' pics. The local squirrel was the
most obliging - they can't resist (low salt) peanut butter!

The grey squirrels beat us to most of the hazelnuts while
they are unripe on the trees, so we buy them at the local supermarket
like everybody else! A few of these go down a treat with our population
of 'tree rats'

As the leaf canopy thins the light penetrating the inside of the woodland
gradually increases, here illuminating a Grey Squirrel against a still black
background.

Grey Squirrels have dense enough tails that they can use them as an umbrella.
We see this behaviour in snow, rain and strong winds.

The sun came out for an hour or two, and a few squirrels could be seen
finding wind sheltered but sunny corners for a sunbathe.
At the top right corner is the now totally destroyed 'Barn owl Box' we expect
to fall without our help any time soon.

This Grey Squirrel has found the way into the bait bag (a decades old dilapidated
camera bag!) and could eat anything it wanted.
What did they pick? A piece of strawberry.

This Grey Squirrel 'eating apple' looks lovely but isn't true. It
was probably licking off the peanut butter stuck on the apple
skin the evening before.

This Squirrel equivalent of 'Bambi' - a juvenile with big eyes and rounded ears.
This seems to be the youngest Grey Squirrel we have ever managed to
photograph.
Cooing is permitted.
