The multitude of Grey Squirrels all seem to enjoy scraping out cooked chestnut husks. Meanwhile they are busy burying whole Horse Chestnuts for consumption in the winter.

One of the Grey Squirrels here seems to prefer collecting corn ears from the field to the west - we expect that different individuals have different food preferences, just like humans.

This site tends to get the food mixed with mud - so this Squirrel picks up the mud and nibbles off the stuck-on corn.

Grey Squirrels don't 'shovel in' corn - they always carefully nibble it held in their paws. While endearing to watch, it is probably that the corns need to be crumbled up for their digestive systems to extract the goodness.
Birds have a gizzard to break up hard foods that Squirrels do not.

Walking back home we find this Grey Squirrel busy picking up corn left at the start of the walk.

Walking up the Access track from the north catches this back-lit Grey Squirrel enjoying the corn chucked down some 10 minutes earlier.

The way this Grey Squirrel is holding and eating the remains of the apple looks so 'human' we find it almost unnerving.

Doesn't the Squirrel tail look like a lovely warm Duvet / Eiderdown (depending on your age). In the Drey it probably forms a major element in the Squirrel armoury against the cold.

This Grey Squirrel delicately holds what it is eating in their paws. The food looks like a piece of old fruit.

The Grey squirrels are feeding and caching (hiding) food in earnest ready for the cold weather. 1.4C overnight 4 November already feels cold to us.

Banana skin mostly goes into the compost bucket, but this piece on the Kitchen bird table was appreciated by this Squirrel who spent several minutes nibbling the remaining pulp from the inside of the skin.

Turn your back on the bait-bag for a few minutes and you come back to find a Squirrel making the most of the largess. It must have been IN the bag to reach the peanuts in the nearly empty bag.

A squirrel version of "3 little maids from School" - is this squirrel called Yum-Yum we wonder?
We put out the husks from enjoying Tesco chestnuts (the squirrels always eating all of ours before they are ready for us) and these 3 images are over 12 minutes as the Squirrel worked its way along the stone nibbling out the bits we missed.
