At the moment any sunny morning will find one or more Grey Squirrels
enjoying this sheltered tree-stump. These creatures seem to find the bark
of this Pollarded Willow a desirable snack - like this moment here they will
scape away at the top edge of the bark - the pale wood along the top
edge shows where they have already been.

As Vegans we eat quite a lots of nuts all year, and enjoy the Christmas glut
of fresh nuts available from the supermarkets.
Here this Grey Squirrel is using his sharp front teeth to scrape out the cooked
Chestnut husks of fragments that our cutlery missed.

Our vegetable garden is this year fallow for the winter awaiting
warmer and dryer days. To this Grey Squirrel the loose soil is a
wonderland to dig over for hidden treasures.
Top left the Squirrel found a stem of onion it gleefully devoured.
Bit too hot - lets have a drink.
Another dig found this small potato - much too good to risk
eating where others could try to steal it, so off to some
secluded spot to eat it.

off-guard enjoying an ecstatic scratch.

camera flash and the 1/200 Sec camera shutter to produce this unusual rendition.

Very heavy downpours usually send creatures scuttling for cover.
This Grey Squirrel looks like it was getting soaked, and used its
flexible body to shake the fur dry (well a bit less wet anyway).
All those peanuts without having to fight off other squirrels
for them must be worth the soaking.

Should we tell the Magpie that the Grey Squirrel was sitting on his food 3 minutes earlier?
The Magpie's eye is fine - he has closed his nictitating membrane (inner eyelid) for a moment.

What looks like a thoroughly irritable Grey Squirrel - there may be one of their
aggressive hissing calls to go with this. A corvid (some sort of crow) is
passing behind.

Here out on the Farm Road it is a human behind the lens.
Why hope for a human hand-out - there's 100 acres of corn 'fresh on the stalk' all around.

An adult Grey Squirrel spread-eagled on a sunny branch in the south hedge couldn't
care less about the 2 humans 10 metres away. "This is the life!".
If this is a 'mum' squirrel, we completely understand her point of view.
