One of the two White Satin Moths obliged with a flight for us.

This White Satin Moth was hanging like this from a grass seed head a couple of metres from the moth trap in which we caught another. We like the pretty black and white ringed legs.

We had hoped that the characteristic purple centre flower of 'Wild Carrot' (also known as 'birds nest' plant) might show something interesting in Ultra Violet light, but were disappointed all of the petals on both sides dark in UV
See A survey of British Wildlife in Ultra Violet (UV) Light
This natural light image includes detail showing the centre flower which takes a different form as well as colour to the white flowers.

A week after the initial flourish of white wild rose, we get the more conventional pink flowers with much less perfume - even a whole bush with 100 flowers produces less perfume than a handful of white flowers in the hedge. The Honey Bee is making the most of the pollen.

Another of the Wild Rose images (without the perfume). We hope to include this one in a Bud > Flower > Hip animated sequence in the Autumn.

Wild Roses in the hedge give it some sparkle and wonderful fragrance.

These wonderful wild roses drench several metres around them with their perfume.
Dog Rose is pleasant but nowhere close in strength.
We recently read that Rose experts say that half of modern roses have no discernable scent at all - breeders concentrating only on appearance.

The wild roses in the hedge are soaking the air in perfume. Sorry this pic can only show the flowers and not the scent.

These white wild rose flowers smell divine even as you walk down the other side of the hedge! We have a mixture of 'bought' wild rose, and root stocks of cultivars not controlled by pruning. The pink varieties have far less aroma.

The Wild Rose (Dog Rose) plants in the hedges are beginning to flower wafting their sweet scent into the air as you walk by.

Lots of rain has produced some interesting raindrop patterns, including this delightful Wild Rose flower. No fiddling - this is how we found it.

After the awful Spring the white variant emerged about 2 weeks later than usual, but this 'Pink' wild rose (the root stock of a cultivar) arrived around it's usual time of year

Another from the unusually frosty November morning of some sort of wild rose showing a hip the birds haven't had yet and frosty leaves yet to fall.

The Wild roses produce a profusion of hips. NOT for human consumption - they are dangerous unless properly processed, but many animals safely consume them.

Our first flush of Wild Roses are always white petalled. The scent is incredibly strong even metres away from a few flowers.

Each year we find a few Robin's Pin Cushion on wild rose plants. These are tiny plant gall caused by a tiny wasp laying an egg.
