The morning of 12 November 2020 saw this minor astronomical alignment. This photo at 06:38 shows the Crescent moon and Venus, both clear to see with Venus in the upper middle of this pic. Mercury we just couldn't see with the naked eye or camera, but appears faintly below middle on the left in all the pics taken when viewed at camera resolution.
The planets in the boxes are scaled up 3 times, then reduced a similar amount when making this 1024 pixel height reduction, so look not dissimilar to the camera originals

We missed the best of this 'conjunction' between the crescent moon and a brilliant Venus due to the classic UK astronomers bane - clouds the previous night, but it is still an arresting sight.

This Dandelion Clock sparkled in the hazy early morning sunshine. It was only when we looked at this pic on the PC screen that we realised that it was actually frosted. Air temperature was suddenly down to 5C was enough to warrant warm coats and over-trousers.

Wonderful dramatic show of clouds, but it didn't produce any rain for our parched plot.

The remnants of Hurricane Ophelia arrived at various times across the UK. For us it was mid-day to late afternoon on Monday 16th Oct. Mid afternoon. It got really dark as the whole sky took on an orange tinge. You could look at the sun without it even feeling bright. We have chosen this image because it most looks how we remember it. We looked hard for sunspots but couldn't find any, and the NASA site confirms that there were none - its a 'Solar Minimum' of the 11/22 year cycle.

This pair of Dog Roses on the same branch show very different conditions - one freshly open and the other sun-bleached. We think that the lack of fertilising insects means the flowers stay open for longer, giving the UV from the sun time to do it's damage.

In previous Eclipses of the sun we have enjoyed the dappled light through trees making hundreds of mini-crescents on the ground. But that was in summertime and the bare trees of Winter do not oblige. But we did notice that the weak shadows of the bare branches looked unusually crisply edged on smooth surfaces such as the concrete track near our garage. You would expect this from the smaller size light source the eclipse provides.

There was a total eclipse of the moon on Saturday 10th 2011 but by the time the moon rose in the UK it was almost over. Here are a couple of images taken at dusk (4.20 p.m.) using a hand-held camera as the moon appeared above the haze at the horizon. The first image gives the impression including the dark landscape.

The image shows more how the moon appeared to the eye which can adapt to the huge contrast far better than a camera. The earth's shadow was creeping off at the top right.

We have seen Evening Primrose flowers around the house for several years, but just hadn't noticed that the flowers are in their glory in the early morning.

A hungry fox slightly crouched a few metres from the active Rabbit hole in this mound under the bottom (remaining) step. This is around sunrise - the fox undoubtedly hoping an incautious young Rabbit will appear to provide his 'supper'.

Just before dawn the homeward bound fox has a last pass through the meadow.

These three images are of the same fox out hunting before sunset at the hedge bottom, just after midnight in the meadow, and after Sunrise back at the hedge bottom. We have scaled the images on the different camera kits to be the same size. Look at the animals Irises in the 3 lighting conditions (the flash is too fast for the eye to respond until after the photo). We don't know what the animal caught, but you can't criticise the persistence!
