At nearly 3.30 a.m. this Badger turns up to examine the still substantial
roadkill Hare remains.
The Badger may have blocked the beam while
feeding on it, or just wandered away - we don't know which.

20 minutes later this Badger drags away the roadkill Hare remains.
To us this looks like a different individual to the earlier visit.
Next morning, the site now empty, we looked for indications of where the
carcass was dragged, but found no signs.

In the small hours we get this glimpse of a Fox exiting the site with
what is most probably a Rabbit in their mouth.

By the next morning the dead Hare was gone, and on downloading images from the
trail cam at the Fox Hole we see a cub carrying the now light carcass into the Fox hole.
Running a wildlife sanctuary frees the inhabitants from some of the Human pressures,
but the carnivores do tend to eat their neighbours :-(

A different individual Hare we think, judging by the different markings on the ears.
This one bounding to the spot before stopping completely still.

The first record in 25 years of a Hare on our land. They may have
ventured here when we had just a barbed Wire fence - augmented
subsequently to stop stray sheep. But Hares are nervous animals
and might not like the camera noise and flash - this was the only
pic we got at this camera trap.

A more typical sighting of a Hare - this grey/brown blob 300m to the east turns out to be a Hare
hunkered down in the growing crop.

The Hare decided to go through the hedge into our patch, but surprisingly reappeared
at the same place, only to scamper away, mostly hidden by the uncut grass, to
vanish around the North East corner into the crop or a 'proper' entrance to our
patch.
Young hares can undoubtedly walk straight through uncut pig-net, and this
hare may remember when it didn't matter where you walked through!

This pristine Hare is probably a youngster inexperienced in the dangers of being
near Humans. Over a few minutes this one wandered up the Farm Road towards us
until perhaps 10 metres away. The Hare turned sideways and stopped, assessing
the 2 stationary creatures (us) standing on the grass.

Deciding that it was time to depart with a soupcon of haste, the Hare did an
about-turn and accelerated off.
The first image pics are about 375mS apart and still quite close
This image shows gaps of about 250mS apart and more spread out anyway

The freshly sown fields (Wheat - judging by the 1 metre cube sacks stacked up) doesn't
leave much cover for Hares. Welcome to the local refuge ...

This Hare ran up (centre) and stopped on the grass near the south hedge gap.
Look left. Look Right. All clear to stay for a moment.
Sounds like the 'Kerb Drill' 'drilled' into us 65 years ago - well it must have
worked!

We find hares magical. They seem to like the edge of the corn
crop, but disappear into the crop if disturbed.

This is the only image we got.
