Walks around the patch just don't get to see Hares in the fields, now stripped of the
growing wheat they can use as a refuge. A few seem instead to be making the
most of the comparative cover and largess of our little patch.
We particularly like this portrait at the Woodland site.

Round pond is currently dry, and we are seeing Hares, Squirrel
and Deer visiting the water trough. No way near enough rain yet
to raise the water table to re-fill the pond.

An early Sunday morning walk was rewarded by seeing some hares on
the local farms track. This one was facing into a blustery east
wind, and we presume the flat ears were more comfortable

We finally tried the Hares patience, and it bounded away.
This (to us anyway) bizarre frame tells us that hares can indeed
see behind them!

After the farm Harvest dropped corn bonanza there is not much to feed on
in the fields where there is no quick access to safety cover.
So at least this Hare is enjoying the sanctuary of our little 2 acres

A week later on the back (North side) of the mound we find this sad front end of a hare,
body mostly eaten but head and ears still very recognisable bottom left of the ribs.

Away from the Road, Hares hang around a little longer.
This one is crouched at the edge of the crop watching us.

Around dawn this Hare stays still long enough for this decent portrait.
We see Hares at this site several times a week - normally lolloping through
making a blurred mess not worth showing.

The nearby Hare then wandered back down the concrete road.
Here is a moment when you can again see both of them.
If you follow Japanese Anime from studio Hayao Miyazaki's Studio Ghibli you
may know of director Kondo Yoshifumi's sweet film 'Whisper of the Heart' where a
rendering of 'Country Road' as a humorous 'Concrete Road' has a special resonance.

Not many Hare sightings at the moment, and not obviously linked
to the adjoining farm road being busy or not - this was a normal
busy Tuesday morning.
We have often thought the colour of our Hares appears strange,
but a recent BBC one-off documentary 'Springwatch' (actually in
the Spring for once!) showed exactly the same glowing golden
brown in an extract by Simon King.

A few second after the one above, this hare was running towards us.
It is not as sharp as we would like, but we adore the great long rear
legs stretching out in front of the forelegs as it powers towards us
mostly hidden by out boundary hedge.

... but it seems the Hare then went through the hedge. Our appearance outside the
hedge a quarter of an hour later prompted the Hare to flee.
This is just an impression, but does have the right feel.

A new discovery in the now a few inches high crop - a hare can be spotted most mornings
crouched in a scrape perhaps 30 metres from the farm road and ourselves.

We can't work out the orientation of the Hare here even in
the originals, but we thought it would be interesting to show the
rows of the crop. Once the crop has grown a bit more this magical
creature will be hidden from our eyes.

4 days later saw the first heavy frost of the season. To our
surprise the Hare was still at it's scape just after dawn,
in among the heavily frosted crop. Brrrr.
The hare was present almost every day until our last sighting on
11 December 2014 - about 5 weeks. The clay soil became
waterlogged and we suspect his comfortable scrape became a
mud-bath and he went somewhere more comfortable (Updated 1 Jan
2015).

A sad little tale that starts a few days before the major events. In the middle
of the day we spotted a lone Hare lolloping through the crop on the field across
our access track. Grabbing a picture, and noting to keep an eye out for them in
this field, we just kept this pic 'for the record'.

Lots of activity takes place in the hours of darkness
On the evening of the same day we first see this lovely Hare inside our east hedge
just as it is getting dark.
