Traditionally rabbits love carrots, but what's the chance of catching a pair of rabbits each carrying away a piece.

Ear-Ear (sorry)
We never know what is going to go down well, and we only included this in our weekly assortment email on a whim. But we got enough feedback that we thought we would include it here as well.

What these 2 rabbits are doing nose to nose is anybody's guess. Our is that they started at different end of the same piece of apple peel.

Rabbits have now replaced pheasants as the dominant species visiting the camera site 2. This is a genuine single frame of pair of rabbits possibly using the log like a 'kissing seat'. But then maybe we are just too romantic.

Rabbits can be both territorial and hierarchical. Here it looks like a little squabble gets out of hand, and the two combatants end up rolling at some speed down the quite steep mound still locked together. Probably about 2 seconds between these two frames.

We are starting to recognise 'whisker contact' as quite common. Here a couple of rabbits around a gloomy dawn

Oh dear - a Rat makes the first of its now annual Spring appearances. Would a Rat attack a young Rabbit - a Google search suggests that the answer is 'Yes', but we saw this rabbit again later in the night.

Meat still clamped in one of the talons, the Red Kite makes their exit.

Next morning we spied this Red Kite on the same kill. The Kite grabs a lump of meat and powers their way away. The shadowed area is from the hedge just out of crop.

And what made them finally leave - a rabbit more interested than anything else - one nervous creature frightening off another!

One rook is now continuing the attack - this montage photographed at about 5 fps - this montage spans about half a second.

The number of birds in pursuit reduces as the action moves away from the rookery.

Here is the start of a little story that we only know in parts. Here Roy is photographing something originally intended for the archive, having spotted a dead young Rabbit on the edge of one of the many holes in this mound.

Here is our pic from November 2000 of a Stoat killing and dragging away a decent sized Rabbit.
This was taken on an early Sony Digital camera with resolution of 0.75M Pixels (1024 x 768) that wrote the images to a 1.4MB floppy disk - about 6 images per disk at about 6 seconds a go. This predates USB or photo memory cards as more than prestige items. We are frequently staggered by how quickly digital imaging has advanced - 16 years from floppy disks to 128GB memory cards with about 10,000 times the capacity and about 100 times faster. Not to mention the cameras typically 30 times more pixels - though at the expense of quality in poor light. This old camera can still focus in light much dimmer than modern cameras can manage.

On 17 Dec 2008 we showed you a rabbit and mouse with the comment
'Obviously rabbits are not frightened of mice, unlike the proverbial Elephant.'
However looking at this image maybe its not true for all rabbits.
